Capability and Competency Development for the Energy Sector

A 5-day classroom course designed to strengthen key interpretation skills and add tools to the interpreter’s workflow. Topics include understanding the crucial elements of seismic interpretation, velocity modelling & depth conversion, creative use of seismic attributes to extract stratigraphic detail and rock property information from 3D data. A key theme is understanding the importance of geophysical data and consciously communicating the value of these data to the team.

A course providing geoscientists with the practical skills necessary to utilize seismic inversion methods and Quantitative Interpretation (QI) techniques to characterise reservoirs and plan drilling projects for both conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

Participants will gain foundational skills in using well logs for geological interpretation, empowering them to establish robust correlation schemes that enhance reservoir characterization, guide well placement decisions to optimize drilling success, and derive reliable property inputs for geological modeling.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of necessary concepts for seismic interpretation in carbonate systems for successful exploration and production. The newest concepts in depositional and microbial processes in shallow and deep water carbonate environments, rock physics, and sequence stratigraphy are presented through a combination of lectures, case studies and exercises.

This course explores how the physical and chemical nature of mudstones constrains our petrophysical approach and how core, log, image, and geochemical data can be integrated to develop an appropriate petrophysical evaluation workflow. The analysis can be applied to pilot wells to determine favorable zones to go horizontal, or to horizontal wells to determine optimum completion intervals.

This 5 day field course provides hands-on experience with a variety of modern, clastic reservoir geobody types that provide calibration points for accurate facies and reservoir models and allow for more targeted exploration, appraisal, and development wells, ultimately increasing reservoir production potential and overall profitability.
